The Fashionable Commute

Life is not all about fashion, but I guarantee you'll see a lot of ugly outfits if you take public transit to work in the morning...

TBNS - with 100%less rabbit

Last (cold as eFF) night, Bottom of the Hill, post Goat Hill Slices, Noise Pop

3 bad bands and The Billy Nayer Show

The recap between Mateo and I is really all you need to know to understand how surreal he is.
the whole night was fun and funny, and now mb is threatening to drive to santa cruz to buy a Vox WahWah pedal and start his own band.... (YIKES!) ;) They'll be called RevelationXXI - and "Let's Make Sum Noize At the Pearly Gates" is going to be their first single....

haha. I hope.

IM conversation/Billy Nayer review follows:

Mateo hey jb - how was the rest of the show?
Mateo ha! did you stay till the end?
Catwalker we were getting loopy too so we stayed for 3 more songs maybe 4 after you left
Mateo i was totally tripping out by the end. it was such a *weird* event.
Catwalker it really was...
Catwalker I liked him
Mateo i just felt like everyone was in on some very strange joke that i couldn't get.
Catwalker it didn't feel like noise pop
Mateo definitely not.
Mateo it was more like a regular bottom of the hill show. eccentric.
Catwalker yeah... i would have liked to have seen him in some really dark wierd joint like makeout room or cafe du nord
Mateo ooh, yeah.
Catwalker it was very twin peaks-esque and I was too tired to appreciate it...
Catwalker which bummed me out a bit...
Mateo he may have seemed less (or more) nosferatu-y if it was darker.
Mateo he was kinda freakin me out.
Catwalker me too and i LOVED it....
Mateo with the finger picks and his posture, he just seemed ... i don't even know the word
Catwalker after you left he did more chatting with the audience
Mateo oh yeah?
Catwalker and he used this totally affected stage voice
Mateo oh man.
Mateo if i wasn't so tired i woulda had nightmares about him last night.
Mateo his bass player was trippin me out too.
Catwalker I kept wondering if he comes down for breakfast and says g'morning like that....
Mateo the whole thing from those dudes in front of us: "i like your new head" -- that was odd.
Catwalker I'm glad we're talking about this now - it's making me love last night even more...
Mateo the bass player dude looked either like a homeless man or like the guy who played the oompa loompas in the new willy wonka.
Catwalker but the best part was he never talked about bunnies in the whole time we were there...!!!!!
Mateo yo uare fucking kidding me.
Mateo wtf was that.
Mateo WTF???
Mateo maybe it was those dudes who were playing the joke on us, with all that talk of rabbits!
Mateo on everyone!
Catwalker totally - or them selves....
Mateo that is galactically cool.
Mateo we should pick some random-ass show, and some random ass fetishizable object, and go take over a show.
Catwalker YES! but we'd need a posse to pull it off....
Mateo we could do it. with a little planning.
Catwalker so near the end, i started to freak out a little and made mb move with me to the back of the room
Mateo good call. i think we would have benefited from a little distance.
Catwalker but I liked being close because Billy/Cory's nosferatu-ness really hit hard
Mateo seriously.
Mateo cah-reeeeepy.
Catwalker LOVED it - you know you did too
Catwalker ready for a JBism????
Catwalker Billy N. is kinda like Jonathan Richman + Crispin Glover with the tiniest bit of They might be Giants sprinkled over....
Mateo i can def. see that. a very somber TMBG.
Catwalker (i'm for shit if I don't have some celebrity math to offer on demand)
Catwalker (even if it is my own demand....)
Mateo oh, and listening to feist yesterday, you're totally on the money with the bjork + brasilian music equation
Catwalker thank you!
Mateo the universe works like a celebrity math equation...
Catwalker I adore validation on my wierdo equations....
Mateo when you're right, you're right.
Mateo i do wish it had a) been an earlier show and b) been at a darker/creepier venue
Catwalker I'm totally giggling remembering how weird that whole thing was, with ambassador to noisepop chatting us up and all the dreadlocks in rainbow colors and Cory Docktorow, and, and, and.......
Catwalker oh yeah, the rabbit people kept saying "Take the bunny"
Mateo our chant can be "i like your new head."
Mateo wow.
Mateo did he take the bunny?
Catwalker no.
Mateo fucker.
Catwalker he acted like he didn't even get it
Mateo that. is. SO. weird.
Catwalker and some ass kept yelling out some song and neither he nor the bass player knew what it was.....
Catwalker (yeah right)
Catwalker he was clearly trying to 'move on'
Mateo holy cannoli.
Catwalker but i truly did love feeling that off and uncomfortable and almost as if i was on drugs - it was truly surreal. I don't get many of those moments anymore
Mateo yes! i totally felt high and disoriented when i left.
Mateo ok - we're having site problems, i gotta run.
Mateo ttyl!
Catwalker bye!!
Mateo take the bunny!
Catwalker NO!

Embarrassing periods of silence between postings is....

the new black! shhh! enough.

I am embarrassed for other bloggers that I call myself a blogger - maybe I should call myself the accidental blogger. I'm obsessed over other's blogs and yet I can't do the 'art' a spec of justice myself... oh so sad.

Bygones! So - what was really fun and cool the other night - was my Metric experience. THE.BEST.BAND.LATELY! They're really quite fantastic, and they put on a hell of a show. Which I saw at the Fillmore last Friday night. I went along with mi amigo Mateo y his corazon Rach & a new friend Nicole. We had great food at Papalote where I recounted tales of attempting to 'barter' the extra ticket on CL - to no avail, peeps were NOT creative... except for the lady who offered skiis, but I don't ski!!!!!

I also said some random thing about lame fratties in their Seven for all Humanity jeans, and was met with 3 blank stares. I won't openly blame that on the fact that these folks are of the Gap hating, tofu eating, hybrid 'ride' having, environment watching, activist being, urban hippie types, but well they are and their frame of reference is missing the ENTIRE category of ridiculously (fitting) priced denim. This was discovered after finding out that after the Levis, Wranglers, Lee, the OH SO EVIL Gap, and possibly Lucky or Deisel, they're sure that there is no need on this planet for other jeans .... wierd huh?

Not that anyone should pay over $100 for cotton pants, but hey, you'd at least think they'd know the extent of their enemy, non?

Moving along.... We went to the show and were treated to the atmosphere of one of the more historically relevant concert venues in SF (apples, posters, Jerry etc.) and suffered through the first opening band "The End of Fashion" - they looked the part (cowboy shirt wearing scruffy hair singer, t-shirt sporting tall skinny all-boy boy on guitar, a gritty looking but short-haired drummer, hippy-esque guy on bass. Strange thing tho - they sounded like a hairband - a'la Poison .... OUT!

The second band was called Islands which rocked - they reminded me of Bright Eyes circa years ago now, meets the Decemberists, but due to their ecclectic lineup with Beck-like nerd singer, twin asian violinists, wierd soprano sax hybrid - later to be learned was a bass clarinet, and a black bass player sans shoes - I decided to dub them the Diversity Team Jug Band. Mateo liked something more akin to the AV Club rocksters. Either way - their album was bought and we hope to hear more good things from them.

Then Metric pretty much got on stage and blew us (and nearly our eardrums away). I loved the singer so much, Emily I think her name is, and not becuase we have similar hair-do's(!) but she just rocks, she did 2, count them TWO stagedives, and wore an all white ensemble of hotpants, glittery strand belt, and a white muscle t-shirt, so hot!!!

That's all I got. I will quickly add that I was very inspired as I had been looking forward to NoisePop since last years fest ended, and this show, tho not technically part of the festival this year, was the first in a small series of shows I'll be seeing this week. Fiest tomorrow and Billy Nayer on Wednesday.

Hopefully there will be something to report!!
