a la plaaaayyyyyyya (no not burningman!)
(i was writing a message to my friend that never did get sent - but turns out it's a nice recap of vacation well deserved, well spent, and by this time (we were back last Thursday) well OVER.
Hola Amiga,
Hola Amiga,
We're nearly finished with vacation - dirty mexico almost behind me. I'm bug bitten and sorta tan (as much as that is possible) definitely relaxed - and grateful to have had a long break from work.
We're heading out to dinner in a sec, and that will be followed by a night at the Voga - the crazy once a week disco where all the kids get their fancy clothes out and go see whatever fairly unknown band that has traveled into this dusty no-stoplight-town. It's crazy - the club looks like any other I may have visited during the 80's ...neon paint and black lights, grimy in a way that not even black paint can hide. The crazy thing is that the last night we visited all the kids showed up to dance in JEANS.... no - this is not a fashion snub - this is a sanity snub - it's like 85 degrees at night outside in the fresh air... let alone inside a club dancing closely and quickly... on a crowded dance floor - just amazing. I'll let you know if tonite is any diff.

Each day we've slept until about 10ish - mb then gets up and makes us coffee and cuts up the mangos that we get from a man at the beach 10pesos/bag ($1) Tree ripe mangos that he picks from his backyard... (a.k.a. steals from the neighbors trees... lol...J.K.!) either way, they are the best mangos i've ever eaten...
then we might do a swim in our pool here at the hotel or do a quck errand in town - take the laundry or get some supplies. Then off to the beach (a la playa = to the beach) to drink about a dozen pacificos for about 10 bux and some fresh shrimp ceviche and empanadas. We take a swim in the ocean - warmer than the bathtub....and back to the table to read some and relax
most days under the palmfrond roofed palapa we fend off about 10 offers (local people wander the beachside laden like burrows with their wares) to buy jewelry or local crafts and cave in and buy some fresh baked banana bread or coconut cakes. Then it's back to the bungalow for another swim and then i make delicious margaritas we listen to some music read or send email and head back to the town for dinner.
it's a slow time here - but enjoyable. It is the jungle however, and if only there were no bugs - all the better. Oh! it's also the rainy season here, and we've been treated many nights to unreal pounding rainstorms lighting and thunder. and never has it dropped below 80 degrees with a touch of humidity.
that's the scoop from south of the border - hope all's well with you!
we're back to the land of Senior Frog's on Monday - watch OUT!!!!
Wish you were here!!
